TV Anytime

TV-Anytime Forum is an association of organizations, set up in September 1999, to develop standards to enable audio-visual and other services based on mass-market high volume digital storage in consumer platforms.

The organisation brings together the interests of Consumer Electronics Manufacturers, Content Creators, Telcos, Broadcasters and Service Providers.

At its inception TV-Anytime Forum established four fundamental objectives for the organization, which are:

• To define specifications to enable applications to exploit local persistent storage in consumer electronics platforms.

• To specify the necessary security structures to protect the interests of all parties involved.

• To remain network independent with regard to the means for content delivery to consumer electronics equipment,

• To develop specifications for interoperable and integrated systems, from content creators/providers, through service providers, to the consumers.

A major feature for content owners of the TV-Anytime specification is that it seeks to ensure that content can be stored securely in a consumer device.

In October 2003 The European Telecommunications Standards Institute published TV-Anytime’s Phase 1 specification as an ETSI Technical Specification. The document, ETSI TS 102 822, is entitled Broadcast and On-line Services: Search, select and rightful use of content on personal storage systems. The specification is available free of charge from the publications download area.
