On Demand Distribution (OD2) is a European provider of online music services. The company manages a catalogue of music content from several record labels and has developed a system to sell and promote it via on-line retailers.

OD2 offers services to the music industry such as encoding and encryption of audio content to audio formats such as Windows Media Audio and MP3.DRM functionality can be added during the conversion process. OD2 provides an online royalty management service, which issues an electronic licence for every track sold online. Associated with the services above, the company has developed a system allowing content owners to track sales, and to manage royalty distribution. The company also hosts online music services for several companies.

The company’s distribution platform is based on Windows Media technology. While most of the services developed and managed by OD2 have so far been based on Windows Media 7, the company has recently introduced a platform based on Windows Media 9.

OD2 is able to manage the entire online music distribution process, from packaging content to web hosting and distribution. In fact, most online services developed by OD2 are hosted on the company’s servers.

OD2 has also developed a client side interface allowing users to stream, download, burn and transfer music content.

In addition to its technology service, OD2 also takes care of securing licensing agreements with various record companies and maintains an extensive catalogue of music tracks which it can make available to branded services.

The company provides its services to many European online music portals including, HMV, MSN, Freeserve, Tiscali, MTV Online, Fnac and Ministry of Sound.
